Meet Moqtadr al-Sadr...
Up close & personal...
This is another way to go on this portrait... light background, scene of burning chaos. I am unsure of how to proceed with this portrait. I started a second, then a third - a full figure, with more background. Will post later.

Man, that flesh is so creepy and fleshy. Like this bag filled with hate. Yecchh! Yo: saw your "nice people" illustration to today's Boston Globe. What can I say but: "Nice!"

Terrific job John. The mouth conveys everything. Nice watercolor handling. Supposing the burning chaos was right in his little grubby hands? I drew this guy once also.

Very nice John. I too drew him once. I think Randy's suggestion is a good one. Also gives the opportunity to add some reflecting colors on the face, from the flames. DG

Thanks drawgers... Why do I pick creepy people to draw?? (Next is Ahmadinejad)... Rob - Thanks for the heads up... Randy - Yes! I like that idea.... Before I surrounded him with red, I had just a swirl of red (flame...) coming from his hands... too subtle. Pile of burning car parts in the hands is better... David - also a good point - thanks! And David, nice WSJ piece today...(again!) J.D. - There once was a fatwah from Nantucket... How does that go? (thanks!) Zina! Great minds think alike... But in the wide world of propaganda, this could be seen as positive image of him - looking like a menace, intimidating his foes. Some of the reference I found of him does exactly that.

Nice portrait, John. Interesting the rich, layered complexion you gave him.
