Earlier this year I created a few pieces for a Restaurant chain, but only recently received the posters as they were finally put together... illustrations and hand lettering... I thought the old paper look helped. Not so sure about the basket of wings at the bottom...

Hi John, There is nothing wrong with great illustration for advertising. As matter of fact witty illustrations like these make advertising bearable. Was is intentional to use the random background paper twice?

Christoph, Yes, but you might think they would want to vary it a bit... unless these would not be seen together...

Funny stuff!! Love the way you handled the type. What's that guy drinking? I'm thirsty!

These are fantastic, John. Beautiful and funny! I love to have stuff to read on art...it's a grown-up version of reading the backs of cereal boxes during breakfast, when I was a kid. Your palette, painting, line, lettering: they all work together perfectly.

Yikes, Dykes! PETA will get you for this!

Hand lettering and illustration go together like wings and sports bars. Nice work.

Yeah, those pesky wings! Who the hell they think they are? The client!? The lettering is awesome, Sir John.

The wings work great, John. They almost seem tongue-in-cheek, and form a nice sort of punctuation for the ad. Very funky pages!

What great art, John! I am a fan of distressed sort of things, like that paper. It helps add so much to the art. Great lettering too.
