Nice transparent auto.
The class picture is hilarious.

Hi John,
Great childhood collection.
The microphones and Nixon's forehead are out of this world.
Cheers

Your teacher's comment about your timing is hilarious. She just wants you to be a better class clown!
Hal Mayforth November 21, 2006
I would have loved to have seen your presentation John. Was Barry Fitzgerald your host? If so, I imagine you had a great time seeing the sights in Lawrence, KS. As well as the watering holes. I did the same gig at the outset of the Iraq war and spent most of my time in "the cottage" with my eyes glued to the TV.

Yeah - Timing is everything.... I think it is the jokes blurted out at precisely the WRONG moment that make them snap.
My sister took that class portrait to one of her reunions and they had some fun with it. Although the threatening letters persist.
Thanks!

Hal,
Your comment came 3 minutes too early!
or my 8:44 posting was too late... Or.....
Yes, Barry Fitzgerald host extrordinaire...
This 'cottage' Hal mentions is great. 'the chancellors cottage' (said indubidably with an extended lower jaw) is this rustic, well, cottage.... I was preparing for Motel Hi-Ho, so this was a nice surprise. Guest book was fascinating to go through... Many illustrators, designers, and one of the Supremes (er... S.D. O'Connor)... lots of diplomat types.... Hal, I cut yours out so I could keep it.

Very funny post.
How much did Buckwheat and Spanky pay you to put the "P" backwards on that stopsign?
David Goldin November 21, 2006
That report card is suitable for framing. Great post- love the green lady getting her ears cleaned. Ha!
David Flaherty November 21, 2006
love the various sized heads on the last one John! Were we not all class clowns? I know I was.
Leo Espinosa November 21, 2006
if you time the clown thing, then it's NOT funny. When are those teachers gonna learn!?
Great minimalistic early period style, John.
Robert Saunders November 21, 2006
Funny stuff, John! I always knew you played well with others.

John, the class pictures are priceless.

Word up to the newbie: Juvenilia don't mean a thing on Drawger until you've been drilled by the cable guy.
Mystified? That's 'cause you're a newbie...
Edel Rodriguez November 21, 2006
JD, don't be mean to the new guy now. John, this is what he's talking about:

I like the Nixon and the Statue of Liberty. They're great and funny. You had the talent back then. Nice post.
J.D. King November 21, 2006
Edel, we gotta haze these newbies, let 'em know who's boss.
After the hazing, they're Drawgers in good standing.
John Dykes November 21, 2006
This newbie shivered a cold sweat reading about a certain cable guy. I sure hope this hazing phase is over. That was scary and at times, wicked.
And now we switch you back to our regularly scheduled blogging....
Is that the doorbell? I gotta answer that. I think it's the.....AAAHHHHHHHHHggghhh!
